Was Carl Sagan a religious man? He was so much more. He left behind the petty, parochial, medieval world of the conventionally religious, left the theologians, priests and mullahs wallowing in their small-minded spiritual poverty. He left them behind, because he had so much more to be religious about. They have their Bronze-Age myths, medieval superstitions and childish wishful thinking. He had the universe.

And to reiterate what Carl so wonderfully conveyed to us, we have the universe too. This wasn’t some perspective only adapted by the so-called ‘intellectuals’ or ‘geniuses’ amongst us. “We can“…(be brought closer in a spiritual sense, to the universe)…”because the cosmos is also within us; we’re made of star stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself.” Never forget this. The sun on your upturned face should be a persistent reminder of our mother’s love.
